Congratulations to England and East Grinstead star Ashley Jackson whose Ranchi Rhinos side won the inaugural Hockey India League on Sunday.
Jackson played in the final with his side defeating Delhi Waveriders 2-1 in a cracker of a game to take the title at Birsa Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday.
After New Zealander Simon Child put the Waveriders ahead, South African Austin Smith drew the hosts level through a drag flick, before India’s Manpreet Singh’s winner in the final quarter sealed the title for the hosts, who were supported by a packed capacity crowd.
Jackson, 25, finished equal sixth top scorer in the tournament with five goals - three penalty corners and two penalty strokes.
The prize money for the winning team was Rs 25 000 000, close to £300,000 while the runners up, the Delhi Waveriders, received half of that amount.
