Improved show from U16 Girls

England Under-16 Girls lost out to the Netherlands in the third and final match of their friendly fixtures at Lilleshall on Easter Monday.

Strong defence helped the England girls keep the Dutch at bay for 50 minutes – but when their opponents did create chances on goal they clinically took them and ended up winning 5-0.

Three goals in the first 10 minutes put England on the back foot, but their dug in well and frustrated the Netherlands, who didn’t add to their tally until the final ten minutes from penalty corners on 60 and 69 minutes.

“This match has been another step forward in the girls’ development. It was definitely a midfield battle, and the girls worked really hard,” said Head Coach Marc Bourhill.

“The defence was much better all over the pitch, but when the Dutch did get a chance on goal they were very clinical.”
