Blueharts Hockey Club raise more than £10,000 for Air Ambulance; launch Luke Hobson Memorial Pitch
On Saturday 12 October, Blueharts Hockey Club hosted an event to remember Luke Hobson, the young Blueharts member who lost his life in March this year following a tragic accident at a training session.

Together with Luke’s family and friends, Blueharts members came together to dedicate the new Lucas Lane astroturf pitch the Luke Hobson Memorial Pitch.

Following the dedication, there was an exhibition match, with an invitational Blueharts side hosting a team including a number of Luke’s friends.

As well as the opportunity to come together to remember Luke, the event was focused on raising significant funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity (EAAA), who played such an important role in getting Luke to hospital the night of the accident.

The EAAA were in attendance and supported various fundraising activities throughout the day, including a charity raffle and auction.

The current total raised is just over £10k, with more expected over the coming days. All money raised will go to the EAAA to support their continued work.

Carol Lamey, President of Blueharts Hockey Club, commented: "On Saturday we welcomed Luke’s family, friends, Blueharts members, the wider hockey community and also the East Anglian Air Ambulance, as we came together to remember our fellow young Bluehart. As a hockey club, it is our intention to always remember Luke and by dedicating the new pitch in Luke’s name we will ensure his memory lives on within our community.

"We would like to thank the local businesses who supported us on Saturday, including those who generously donated items to the raffle and auction which raised almost £5k. Our hockey family also made a significant contribution to our reaching a fundraising total of over £10k, with opposition teams donating Saturday’s match fees to the EAAA.

"As part of our Blueharts purpose, going forward we will adopt EAAA as our regular charity, with fundraising and donations being part of our annual activities."

If you would like to support the ongoing work of this important charity, please text ‘Luke’ to 70085 to donate £5 (this will cost £5 plus standard rate message)

About the EAAA
EAAA is a 365-day-a-year helicopter emergency medical service covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. It exists to save lives by delivering highly skilled doctors and critical care paramedics by air to seriously ill or injured people in the region. EAAA does not receive regular direct government funding and the £13 million it needs to raise this year comes directly from charitable donations. The service is only kept airborne thanks to its incredible supporters.
