England into Semis and off to 2010 World Cup

England secured a valuable semi final place at the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Amstelveen after beating Azerbaijan 4-1.  The result also guarantees England a place at 2010 World Cup.

Leicester's Chloe Rogers gave England the lead after 15 minutes and Alex Danson doubled the advantage midway through the first half.  Mi Kyung Alieva halved the deficit before half time but two second half strikes from University of Birmingham midfielder Susie Gilbert made sure of the victory.

The result puts England into what is likely to be a semi final against Germany, a rematch of the 2007 semi final which Germany went on to win 2-1.  Danny Kerry's young squad will be hoping to go one better this time around.
