Leicester Look to Continue Cup Run at Clifton

The third round of the Women’s Cup takes place this weekend with teams battling out for a place in the quarter finals.

The tie of the round comes at Coombe Dingle as England Hockey League (EHL) Premier Division teams Clifton and Leicester go head to head.  This is Leicester’s second successive Cup match against Premier Division opposition and they will look to continue their impressive unbeaten start of the season to progress to the final eight.

All other Premier Division teams face lower league opposition with last season’s runners-up Reading travelling to Abbeydale to take on Sheffield Hallam.  Trojans travel to Cambridge City looking to use the Cup to boost their league form whilst Cambridge City will hope to cause an upset on the back of their first league win of the season last weekend.  The University of Birmingham travel south to Hertfordshire to take on St Albans and Olton & West Warwicks will entertain Sutton Coldfield in a Midlands Derby.

Sunderland face a long trip south to take on Staines in the only match in round three where two clubs from the EHL Conferences meet.  Surbiton, who are one of only two non-EHL sides left in the competition, will entertain Buckingham who are going strong in their first ever season in the national league.  The other non-EHL side left in the competition is already safely into the last eight as Dereham received a walkover against Barnes Hounslow Ealing.

Full match details can be seen below. Interested parties are reminded that the draw for the Quarter Finals will be available on the England Hockey website on Monday.
