Women's Cup Quarter Final Draw

The draw has been made for the last eight of the Women’s Cup.

Surbiton’s reward for their shock win against Buckingham is a trip to take on current England Hockey League (EHL) leaders Leicester who comfortably overcame fellow EHL Premier Division team Clifton 4-0.  Non-EHL side Surbiton maintained their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions with a 3-1 victory over Buckingham thanks to a brace from Maddie Tate.  They will now hope to cause an even bigger upset when they travel to the 2008 winners in February.

Sutton Coldfield also caused an upset against a team in a higher league with a 3-1 victory away at EHL Premier Division side Olton & West Warwicks.  Their reward for this victory is another Midlands derby match, this time at home to the University of Birmingham who won 6-0 on the road against St Albans thanks to two goals apiece from Abby Webb and Laura Bainbridge.

Sunderland scored two second half goals against Staines to claim a 4-2 victory in the battle of the EHL Conferences and they are rewarded with a home tie against last season’s finalists Reading.  Reading eventually claimed a comfortable 6-0 victory against a battling Sheffield Hallam in the last round with Vicky Bryant, Alex Danson and Claire Kerr all scoring two goals each.

The final tie of the round will see Trojans host Dereham who alongside Surbiton are the other side from outside the National League left in the competition.  Dereham are going strong in the East Regional Premier League with nine wins from nine and will hope to cause an upset against a Trojans side who reached this stage with a 3-2 victory at Cambridge City.
