Women's Cup Round Three Draw

Following round two of the Women’s Cup at the weekend, the draw has been made for the third round, providing plenty of ‘giant killing’ potential as the six remaining England Hockey League (EHL) Premier Division teams avoided each other.

The shock of round two came in a Midlands derby as Sutton Coldfield from the EHL Conference West defeated Cannock from the EHL Premier Division.  A hat-trick from Sutton’s Vicky Woolford helped her team to a 6-4 victory, setting up the chance to claim another Premier Division scalp after being drawn away to Brooklands Poynton, who comfortably defeated Doncaster 4-1.

University of Birmingham defend a penalty cornerNottinghamshire side Beeston will travel to University of Birmingham (pictured) in round three after both teams enjoyed comprehensive victories with the students winning 12-0 at home to Kettering and Beeston winning 7-0 on their travels at Didsbury Northern.

Bowdon Hightown, who had to rely on a last minute goal from Clare Parkhill to beat Ben Rhydding 3-2, have been drawn away to Sheffield Hallam, who beat Cheltenham 4-0 thanks to a brace from Rosy Stephens.  Olton & West Warwickshire and Reading also went through comfortably with wins against lower league opposition and both teams have been drawn against clubs from the West in round three. Olton & WW will host Firebrands and Reading will travel to Team Bath Buccaneers, who had Heidi Barber to thank as she scored twice in the last ten minutes to clinch a 4-3 win over Harrow.

Clifton will host Hampstead & Westminster, who kept their good cup run going with a 4-1 victory at Wapping.  Surbiton won the battle of EHL Conference East as they defeated Sevenoaks 2-1 thanks to a golden goal from Kelly Morgan.  They will now travel to Maidstone who currently sit undefeated in the East Regional Premier League. The remaining game features two sides that currently sit top of their EHL Conference Divisions.  Buckingham, who top EHL Conference West, will host Chelmsford, who top of the Conference East, with both sides making it to this stage with comfortable victories.
