Getting Started

Technical Officials Futures Cup 2017 2 banner
Technical officiating is a great way to be involved in hockey, get close to the action and experience a different side of the game and anyone can get involved.

Do you have:

  • A good understanding of the game of hockey, its rules and regulations?
  • An ability to stay focused?
  • Accuracy in record keeping?
  • The ability to develop rapport and show empathy with players, coaches, team managers and umpires?
Can you be:

  • Firm, fair and flexible?
  • Confident but not dogmatic?
  • Official without being officious?
Then you could be just the person England Hockey are looking for! Domestically, nationally and internationally you could work indoors or outdoors with both genders at all age ranges. There are many opportunities throughout the year working at national league matches as a Match Official or at England Hockey tournaments as Judge, Technical Officer or Tournament Director and you get the best seat in the house whilst you work!

For those with advanced technical ability and enthusiasm there are opportunities to be nominated by England Hockey to the European Hockey Federation (EHF) technical officials register and from there onto the International (FIH) register. This could be your chance to see the world, enjoy top level hockey and make new friends from other countries - all at minimal personal cost!
