Schools Survey

We want to hear your views on the future of the schools competition provision for your students at U14, U16 and U18 age groups.

As a national governing body we want to ensure that the programmes we develop for your students offers the best possible opportunities for their long term development. In addition to the programmes being young people centred they also have to be practical for teachers and schools to implement within a school environment where there are a range of competing educational demands/requirements.

The England Hockey Board (EHB) and the Schools Leadership Group would appreciate you taking a few minutes to gives us your views on a joint proposal for the schools U14, U16 and U18 competition programme for 2010/11 and beyond.

The core of the schools competition proposal centres on moving away from a time consuming all day, one off competition (if you don’t make it to the next round) to a more regular weekly league fixtures list with schools within a reasonable travel distance. Whilst the EHB and the SLG have agreed to pilot an U18 dual term league (league played over two terms from September to April) to test the format there was also strong feedback from schools working with us that the 2009/10 schools competition format was not very viable for schools for the 2010/11 season. Feedback has suggested that up to eight whole days being taken out of the schools environment to take part in the existing competitions.

Please do take the time to complete the short survey and tell us what you think about the proposals for a more regular league competition opportunity and critically what competition format you would favour taking part in for this coming season.

We know time is very limited as schools are looking to finalise fixtures now! However we want to ensure we make the right decision for schools and address issue quickly that might prevent schools from taking part next season.

The survey will close on the 26th May with clear communication for the 2010/11 season issued by the 4th June.
