The first of two games against a Spain U18 development side was always going to be a tough match but with a point to prove after the European Cup the side went into the game in determined mood.

England started well and took the game to the Spanish passing the ball well and it was the away side who had the first scoring opportunity in the first ten minutes.

Spain then enjoyed a period of pressure but excellent defending by all the team stopped the Spanish scoring and England went ahead just before half time with a break away goal following an excellent break by Abby Webb who slipped the ball to Takara Haines to slot into the goal.

After half time England went further ahead in the 44th minute when Libby Sherriff continued her record of scoring in every game, when she ended another a good passing move. Spain raised their game and again exerted pressure which was rewarded with a goal in the 52nd minute. This gave the Spanish greater confidence and they started to give the English defence considerable examination but it was England who scored next with an individual goal from Sophie Bray. Spain were not finished however and a goal a minute later gave the visitors a nervous last six minutes but the defence held firm and England recorded a well deserved win.
