INDIA 1 (0) - (0) 1 ENGLAND
Surinder Kaur 57 (PS) Chloe Rogers 47 (F)

A disallowed goal for each side were the talking points of England's 1-1 draw with India at the women's World Cup in Madrid.

India thought they had scored on the stroke of half-time only for Asunta Lakra's effort to be ruled out for dangerous play - a decision they were not made aware of until midway through the interval.

In the 68th minute Kerry Williams' claims for a winner were dismissed by the video umpire, who ruled she had not deflected the ball in.

Leicester forward Williams set up Chelmsford's Chloe Rogers to score the opener in the 47th minute but Surinder Kaur equalised 11 minutes later from the penalty spot.

The result leaves England with work to do if they are to finish in the top two in their pool and qualify for the semi-finals, with games against Olympic champions Germany and hosts Spain still to come.

England enjoyed the better of the early stages and forced India goalkeeper Helen Mary Innocent into a save from their first penalty corner in the 15th minute, with Ipswich's Jo Ellis narrowly missing the rebound from Canterbury defender Mel Clewlow's strike.

Leicester defender Crista Cullen drag-flicked a corner over the crossbar in the 26th minute before Innocent made good saves from Clewlow corners just before half-time.

In the last minute of the half Daba Anjum's shot was deflected onto a post and Lakra followed in to smash it high into the net only for the effort to be ruled out.

After the break Innocent was again required to save a Cullen penalty corner while in the 42nd minute Chelmsford goalkeeper Katy Roberts, playing her first match of the tournament, saved a Lakra corner.

Seven minutes later England went ahead when Innocent mis-kicked a clearance, leaving the ball virtually on the goalline and Rogers scooped home.

India equalised when Kaur converted a penalty stroke after her corner attempt had hit an England player on its way towards goal.

Slough's Alex Danson missed an open goal after taking a pass from Leicester's Kerry Williams in the circle and drawing the keeper before Cullen powered a penalty corner wide in the 64th minute.

Williams thought she had snatched victory with her deflection two minutes from time but, after review by the video umpire, her effort was disallowed.
