The England age group programme provides players with their first taste of international training camps and tournaments

Selection to the England Age Group Programmes is a significant milestone for a junior hockey player.

England Age Group Programme Activity

Players will experience a best versus best training environment, either through training days or training camps leading to exposure of playing top European nations to include Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Ireland and Home Nations in camp based activity or tournament. Players' education is delivered by specialists in the field of anti-doping, nutrition, strength and conditioning, injury management and psychology, with parents and guardians invited to immerse themselves in the education content.

How To Get Involved

Players are invited into the England Age Group environment after observation has taken place through one of a trials process, Futures Cup performance, School Games performances or evidence based, external coach recommendation.

Entry And Exit Points

The England Age Group Programme traditionally begins in September. The first part of the programme is an assessment period leading to a further selection point, before final training squads are announced and these players considered for matches and competition throughout the remainder of the programme.

Players who are no longer eligible for U18 England activity as  they are too old, may be nominated for the England U21 programme by the England U18 coaches. Players outside of the England age group programmes may be nominated for England U21 assessment by their National League clubs as part of an invitation process which takes place annually.

The England Age Group Programme is run by England Hockey.  Players will have access to experienced England Hockey coaches, team managers, physiotherapists and specialists who will support, guide and facilitate a high quality environment to develop high performance players.
