TWO goals from Laura Bartlett helped Reading go top of the Investec Women’s Hockey Premier Division table with a 4-1 win over hosts Bowdon Hightown on Sunday.

Bartlett (pictured) struck twice in three minutes to help secure the win, while other goals came from Jess Brooker and Helen Richardson.

Olton and West Warwicks had led the table following their win over Sutton Coldfield on Saturday, a hat-trick from Emma McCabe helping them to victory.

McCabe scored after 21 minutes of the first half, and they held that lead to the break. Sutton Coldfield levelled on 49 minutes through Celia Butler at a penalty corner, but McCabe struck again on 58 and 63 minutes to secure the points for Olton.

But they were at the top of the table for just 24 hours before Reading’s win on Sunday saw them overtake their rivals.

Canterbury beat Clifton 2-1 to climb above hem in the table thanks to a first half goal from Charlotte Craddock and a second on the hour mark from Lucy Hyams.

Two goals each from Liz George and Ashley Caddick helped University of Birmingham secure a 4-1 victory over hosts Cannock. Jessica Wood scored the home side’s consolation.

Slough and Leicester drew 1-1 with goals from Natalie Bell and Katie Long.

In the Conference North, both leaders Beeston and second-placed Loughborough Students slipped up as the University of Durham and Wakefield Bradford took over the top slots in the table.

Wakefield Bradford beat Beeston 4-3 with goals from Cat Horn (2), Heather Stafford and Gwen Smith. Beeston had battled back from a 1-0 half time deficit to lead 3-1 with four minutes left, but Wakefield scored two late goals to secure the win.

And Loughborough Students lost out 3-1 at Brooklands Poynton, with Helen Armishaw scoring twice and Laura Evans adding the other.

University of Durham leapt to the top of the table with a 5-3 victory at Springfields. Harriet Moore scored twice, while other goals for the students came from Rose Winter, Louise Boddy and Elisa Filarmonico.

Surbiton took over the lead in the Conference East win a 5-0 win at Horsham.

Two goals each from Chloe Strong and Vicky Bryant helped them to victory, with Abi Robinson scoring the other.

St Albans are also unbeaten after winning 2-1 against Chelmsford, Sarah Cullen and Kerry Lendon scoring their goals.

And Oxford Hawks scored five goals at Maidstone with Beth Warne scoring twice and others coming from Henri Coles, Kathryn Poulter and Anna French scoring the others.

In the Conference West, leaders Buckingham won 4-0 over Staines with two goals from Fiona Farley and others from Joelle Weston and Kitty Higgins.

Elsewhere, Swansea won 2-0 over Barnes Hounslow Ealing, while Firebrands were 4-2 winners at Team Bath Buccaneers. Kathryn Bache scored two goals, while Sophie Fynn and Holly Savage scored the others.

And in the other matches, Isca and Gloucester drew 0-0, as did Exe and Trojans.
