BOWDON Hightown are top of the table in the Maxifuel Super Sixes Women’s Premier Division after going unbeaten in the indoor championship on Saturday, this time staged at the University of West England in Bristol.

They dropped their first point of the Championship in the day’s penultimate match against second-placed Sutton Coldfield, but remain three points clear heading into Sunday’s matches.

Michelle Liptrot put them into an early lead after just two minutes, and doubled their lead on 29 minutes through Jen Rowe.

Sutton Coldfield hit back with late goals from Charlotte Cross and Jane Sixsmith in the final five minutes, but the spoils were shared.

Earlier in the day Bowdon had beaten Harleston magpies 5-3, with Tina Cullen scoring two and others coming from Liptrot, Rowe and captain Nicky O’Donnell.

The Magpies scored through skipper Frances Burrell (2) and Hannah Palmer, but it was not enough to challenge their rivals.

Elsewhere, second-placed Sutton Coldfield beat Clifton 6-4 in their other match on Saturday, with Celia Butler scoring a hat-trick while others came from Sixsmith, captain Vicky Woolford and Charlene Mason.

Reading bagged two victories on Saturday. They beat Slough 6-2 in the day’s opening match, Sam Quek scoring a hat-trick, while Emma Thomas scored four to help them win 8-1 over Trojans.

Leicester were also double winners on Saturday.

Firstly they won 5-4 over Trojans after drawing 2-2 at the break, and had Lauren Turner to thank for a hat-trick of goals.

Then in their second match she scored another two in a 3-0 win over Harleston Magpies, the other coming from Kerry Williams.

Canterbury beat Slough 3-2, with captain Mel Clewlow leading by example with two goals, Lucy Barnes adding the other.

And in the day’s final match honours were even between Clifton and Canterbury, who drew 3-3. Zoe Leach scored twice for Clifton, while Lucy Hyams did the same for Canterbury.

In the First Division at Cocks Moor Woods in Birmingham, Wakefield Bradford are top of the table after securing victories in their first two matches, beating Ipswich 4-1 and overcoming Chelmsford 4-3.

But with two other teams – Univ of Birmingham and Brooklands Poynton – also unbeaten, something has got to give in Sunday’s matches.
