East Grinstead to host Euro Hockey League

The Euro Hockey League (EHL) and the European Hockey Federation (EHF) have announced the draw and venues for Round 1.1 and 1.2 of the forthcoming 2012-13 season. The city of Barcelona and East Grinstead will play hosts to Europe's finest club hockey competition.

Round 1.1 will take place in Barcelona from Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October 2012.

Round 1.2 will take place at East Grinstead Hockey Club in Sussex from Friday 26 October to Sunday 28 October 2012.

East Grinstead are the first club in England to ever host a round of the EHL and the Sussex based club will be looking to put on a big show following London 2012. Following the announcement of the draw, Sally Munday, Chief Executive of England Hockey, said; "England Hockey is delighted that the EHL is coming to England for the first time. We are working hard to provide great spectator experiences to hockey fans across England and are excited about this high calibre addition to our calendar. The decision to appoint East Grinstead Hockey Club as hosts is testament to its continued high performance at domestic and European level as well as the exemplary amibition the club has off the field to develop its role within the community. We look forward to working with East Grinstead and the EHL to deliver a great event for our sport."

Simon Longhurst, Chairman of East Grinstead added, "We are delighted to have been invited to bring the Euro Hockey Legue to England for the first time. We see this as an excellent opportunity to reunite hockey supporters after the Games, and to enable tomorrow's young hockey talent in England to get up close and personal with the stars of today - many of whom will have recent Olympic experience."

About the EHL: Round 1

The 24 clubs will play in 8 pools of 3, at 2 venues (4 separate pools in each venue). Over 3 days each club will play the other two, once. The clubs finishing first and second in each pool will progress to Round 2 (KO16). The club finishing third in each pool will be eliminated from the competition.

The English teams

East Grinstead have been drawn in Pool D and will face Belgian champions Waterloo Ducks and SC Stroitel Brest (BLR) in Pool D.

Beeston HC will face Dutch Champions and 2012 EHL Silver medalists Amsterdam H&BC and Polish Champions WKS Grunwald Poznan in Pool A.

Pool B features the current England Hockey League champions Reading who will face the 2012 EHL bronze medalists KHC Dragons (BEL) and Saint Germain HC (FRA).
