ENGLAND Under-21 Women secured third spot in the Volvo EuroHockey Junior Championships in thrilling style, beating Germany 3-2 with a goal in the dying seconds of extra time in Den Bosch on Saturday afternoon.

Shona McCallin’s 85th minute goal was enough to separate the two sides who had put on an entertaining match, ahead of the final which the Netherlands won convincingly over Spain, 9-1.

Meanwhile, a hat-trick from Canterbury’s Ross Gilham-Jones helped England Under-21 Men beat Scotland 5-0 in men's championships on Saturday, thereby securing fifth spot and their place in the World Championships.

England finished top of Pool C after the victory, ahead of rivals Spain on goal difference, after a strong performance against Scotland.
