Australia show their dominance in Super Series

Nick Catlin scores twice as England beat Pakistan in the Super Series Hockey 9's 2012
England suffered their first defeat at the International Super Series Hockey 9’s in Perth at the hands of their hosts, Australia.

England held their own for much of the game, however with all six of the Kookaburras’ goals coming inside 11 minutes of play the contest was effectively over. Jacob Whetton (2), Rob Hammond, Craig Boyne, Liam De Young and Matt Ghodes were all on target for Australia.

England did pull two goals back through captain Barry Middleton and Hampstead & Westminster’s Dan Fox, but the damage had already been done.

Speaking after the match, England Coach Bobby Crutchley said, “We played well for the majority of the game but against Australia you will always be punished if you take your foot off the gas at anytime. I was pleased with the way that we recovered and battled hard in the final quarter. We will learn a lot form this performance ahead of tomorrow’s final.”
