Beeston despatch with Cannock

Beeston showed their ruthless streak once again as they ran out 5-1 winners over Cannock in the Men’s Hockey League Premier Division on Sunday.

Five different scorers were on target for Beeston with Stuart Pilgrim’s eighth minute goal opening the floodgates.

Stephen Lawrence, Dan Webster and Team GB’s Ali Wilson (pictured) added to the early strike to make it 4-0 before Dan Coultas pulled one back for Cannock with two minutes remaining.

But it was Beeston who had the last say with Tim Whiteman sweeping home with the last stroke of the game. Beeston are now six points clear at the top with a whopping +31 goal difference. Cannock remain third.

Canterbury met a Brooklands team fighting for their lives and the ninth-placed team showed real determination to see the game at 3-3 by the break.

But Canterbury are a tough nut to crack and goals from Devohn Teixeira and Ross Gilham-Jones saw them take a 5-3 win.

A Sam Ward brace helped Loughborough Students to a 3-2 victory over Southgate as they moved up to fourth in the league.

Team GB star Rob Moore scored the crucial winning goal for Surbiton as they took on East Grinstead. The difference between the sides in the league is almost nothing with just a point a couple of goals difference so a tight game was expected as the two sides met today.

And it proved to be the case as they traded goals throughout the match. Rob Schilling gave Reading an early lead but Grinstead took the lead with goals from Andy Piper and Mark Pearn.

Then, in the last ten minutes Surbiton laid siege to the Grinstead goal and Tim Pinnock levelled the scores from a penalty corner. Moore was on hand to slot home the winner a minute later.

Huw Jones hit a brace for Reading as they came away from a six-goal thriller with Hampstead and Westminster with a draw.

Phil Roper starred for Sheffield Hallam as they handed out a 8-1 drubbing of Yorkshire rivals Wakefield. Sheffield Hallam still hold their slender lead at the top of the Men’s Hockey League Conference North.

Guildford are still top of the Men’s Hockey League Conference West although Cardiff remain level on points after their 5-4 victory over Team Bath Buccaneers. The star man in the league today, however, was Nick Cooper who hit a hat-trick in University of Exeter’s 4-0 victory over Bristol Firebrands.

Goals from Ross Booth, Marcus Howard and Gareth Andrew helped City of Peterborough take a point from a 3-3 draw with Wimbledon in Men’s Hockey League Conference East.
