National Under 18 finals

Canterbury Girls and Old Loughtonians Boys were crowned U18 National Champions at the recent finals at Old Loughtonians.  Marlow won the Boys’ Plate competition and Wakefield won the Girls’ Plate.

In the Boy’s Cup, hosts club Old Loughtonians started the final well going two goals up in the opening 20 minutes through goals from Tom Watson and James Seager.  Beeston’s Derryl Rafter pulled a goal back after half time but it was Old Loughtonians who add a third through Edward Mortimer.  A second goal from Beeston’s Chris Proctor gave them hope and they pushed hard in the last 5 minutes but it was Old Loughotnians who took the trophy on home turf.  The 3rd v 4th playoff between Cannock and Trojans ended in a 1-1 draw which took the game to penalty strokes which Cannock won 4-3.

The Boy’s Plate saw Marlow against Winchester in the finals with the game being decided by a penalty stroke.  Marlow’s Josh Rollett beating the Winchester keeper.  The Plate 3 v 4 playoff between Alderley Edge and Sutton Coldfield went to penalty strokes with the game ending 2-2 in normal time, Alderley Edge winning 8-7.

In the Girls’ competition there was nothing between Canterbury and Surbiton with the game ending 1-1, Canterbury’s Eva Barwick open the scoring in the 14th minutes with Surbiton  scoring through an own goal in th second hald.  The penalty strokes went the way of Canterbury 3-1.  In the 3 v 4 playoff Harleston Magpies defeated Teddington 2-1, Harleston magpies went two goals up through Emily Brown and Jemima Jacob. Teddington’s  Lucy Lyth pulled a goal back half way thorough the second half but Harleston Magpies hung onto the lead until the final whistle.

In the Girl’s Plate final, Wakefield’s Ellie McGrath scored a four goals to help the team to a 6-0 victory over Taunton Vale, further goals came from Molly Rawnsley and Abi Sawyer.  The 3 v 4 playoff was also a comprehensive win for Chelmsford who beat Oxford Hawks 6-1.
