Canterbury gave their hopes of top-flight survival a boost when they beat Team Bath Buccaneers 7-1 in the NOW: Pensions Men’s Hockey League Promotion Tournament at Cannock on Sunday.

Four goals from Craig Boyne helped them secure a big win which puts them ahead of Holcombe in the four-team table. Other Canterbury goals came from Harry Roberts, Thomas Richford and Kwan Browne.

Holcombe beat Bowdon 4-3 in their match, with Gareth Andrew scoring twice and others coming from James Stedman and Stephane Vehrle-Smith.

Mike Shaw scored twice and Simon Egerton once for Bowdon, but it wasn’t enough.

And in the relegation play-offs, Teddington won 5-4 against Leek in a dramatic match which saw four goals in the final four minutes.
