TOTW Round 18

Name: Alex Haworth
Club: Crawley HC
Nomination: A regular outfield player, Alex strapped on the pads for the first time ever in a men’s game this weekend and made some outstanding saves in a 2-2 draw though. Will this inspire a permanent position change though?

Name: Mark Hansford
Club: Sonning HC
Nomination: Mark was named ‘Player of the Match’ as he masterminded his team to only their second clean sheet and second win of the season with solid tackling and high line that his nominator claims almost gave him a nosebleed.

Name: Wendy Beaney
Club: Surbiton HC
Nomination: Not only is Wendy a legend of her club, it is claimed she is also a legend of hockey in Surrey. She might be 75-years-old but age is no barrier as she continues to turn out for Surbiton L9s and runs one at short corners! Let’s all be more Wendy!

Name: Emma Cox
Club: Gateshead HC
Nomination: Having spent her evening helping others as a doctor, Emma then stepped up at the last minute to help her club fill the final space for her side, making the hour long journey and being named ‘Player of the Match’ as well. Hero!

Name: Summer Payne
Club: St. Neots HC
Nomination: The 13-year-old has taken to adult hockey like a duck to water, scoring yet another hat-trick this weekend in her debut senior season. Not only that, she was also named ‘Player of the Match’ in a win that saw her team clinch their second successive promotion.

Name: Simon Hipwell
Club: Harleston Magpies
Nomination: This weekend was certainly one to remember for Simon as he helped his team to an impressive 4-1 win, scoring two goals in the process, the first time he has scored a double for more than five years. Sounds like it was worth the wait though!

Name: Saffron Mitchell-Andrews
Club: Felixstowe HC
Nomination: Despite stepping up a level this weekend there was no stopping the dynamic Saffron, who showed she had the ‘legs of a cheetah’ as she controlled the game against experienced opposition in a performance that saw her named ‘Player of the Match’.

Name: Matt Bell
Club: Lindum HC
Nomination: The first of two outstanding scoring feats, Matt netted his 100th goal for Lindum this season – and his 36th of the season – in an exciting 6-3 win over Wilmslow. We don’t think he is done there either.

Name: Ellie Watton
Club: Holcombe HC
Nomination: England and GB forward Watton was the standout player in a thrilling 3-3 draw between Holcombe and Buckingham in the Investec Women’s Premier Division, scoring twice as both teams kept up their scrap to finish in the top four and qualify for League Finals Weekend.

Name: Victor Rosenberg
Club: Univeristy of Warwick HC
Nomination: While Matt Bell might boast some impressive stats, Victor has gone even better by netting his 50th goal of this season this weekend with a final minute winner to seal an overall Varsity win for his university this weekend. Top work!

Name: Gareth Andrew
Club: Beeston HC
Nomination: With Surbiton’s game postponed because of the weather, Beeston closed the gap at the top of the Men’s Premier Division thanks to a thrilling 6-3 win over Canterbury. Gareth was certainly the star of the show, netting a first-half hat-trick to inspire the Nottingham side to victory.
