Happy 4th July! The Low-down on the USA

USA

The United States have named their squad that will look to make their mark at the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup in London this summer.

Last time out the USA finished fourth at the World Cup in 2014 and with a mix of experience and young talent will be aiming to better this result at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

The USA sit in pool B which promises to be a competitive one alongside hosts England, India and Ireland.

Their squad boosts world-class regulars such as goalkeeper Jackie Briggs as well as Melissa Gonzalez and Michelle Vittese who will provide the cornerstone of their side’s push for glory.

Head coach Janneke Schopman said: “Selection was very difficult for us as a staff this year, we have so many players with different strengths that all add something to the team.

“Choosing 18 means leaving players at home, that worked as hard as anyone which is never easy.

“Final preparations for the World Cup are underway, the games in Argentina showed us where we should put our focus on and the team is working hard to making sure we have covered all our bases come the first game.”
