IMHA World Cup - Barcelona 050s Men Report v France

England Masters Over 50s Men

Match 3 – Mon 30 July vs France

England Mens O50s finished their pool matches on a high by having a good controlled performance against a strong French team who also has two wins from two games. Winning the game meant England Topped Pool D and as a result will play the second placed team on pool A, which at the time of writing may be either Australia or Ireland.

The game was played on the main pitch and played in front of fervent supporters from both sides with the video being streamed live on the internet which can be accessed via

England dominated the majority of the game and only small mistakes allowed the French team any hope of gaining a foot hold. The scoring was opened up by the Fox in the Box Kevin Miller who again pounced on a rebound and flicked it over the prone keeper.

This was quickly followed by Neil Pendle who went round the number one runner on a PC and hammered hope a shot across the keeper in to far corner. Two nil at half time and in control. However an early lapse in the second half allowed the French to score from a scrambled short corner. However, the two goal lead was regained when Rob Hill fired in a drag flick from a PC and nearly repeated it later when he rattled the cross bar. Chances were coming thick and fast and all the forwards had opportunities. Eventually Neil Pendle put the game to rest when he deflected in a great lid hand side cross from Mike Gillett. A good 4 1 win

With the game won the team conserved energy as with two injuries the rotations had to be frequent in the 90 plus temperatures. The injured players should be match fit for the next game
