Investec Girls Schools Champs - winners

The Investec Girls’ Schools Championships got off to a cracking start with the U14 Tier 1 and Tier 2 finals taking place at a sunny Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

The action came thick and fast, with 21 matches being played across the day in front of plenty of fans cheering for their teams.

In the Tier 1 competition, Repton defended their title in nerve-wracking style, taking the final to a shootout after the game finished 0-0. After five flicks each the teams were level at 3-3 and it took another eight strokes to decide the winner in sudden death, with Alice Kelly dealing the decisive blow.

A shootout was needed to decide the winner in the Tier 2 competition too, with Plymouth College claiming this trophy. The match ended 1-1, with Plymouth’s Beth Scott finding the net after Jessie Gale had given Sutton Valence an early lead. Megan Bishop and Kate Atkinson then scored in the shootout to win to ensure the silverware was heading back to Devon.

Tomorrow sees the U16 Tiers 1-3 and U18 Tiers 1 and 2 Championships get underway.
