John Inverdale to speak at UKCC Level 4 Coaching Course

Hockey supporter and BBC Sport presenter John Inverdale has been confirmed as guest speaker at a ground breaking Coaching Course this weekend.

The course will be attended by top level hockey coaches including national team coaches Jason Lee and Danny Kerry as well as top rugby league coaches John Kear and Steve McCormack and national coaches from table tennis, squash and basketball.

The UKCC Level 4 Post Graduate Diploma in elite Coaching Practice, which starts on the weekend of 25- 26 September at Bisham Abbey, Buckinghamshire, is a new programme designed to share best practice and integrate cross sport learning. 

John InverdaleJohn Inverdale said: “I'm delighted to be speaking at the UKCC Level 4 Course which represents a great opportunity for sports to share ideas on best coaching practice and will allow those taking the qualification to become master coaches."

England Rugby League Head Coach Tony Smith will be involved throughout the programme and will be looking to join the programme next year after the Gillette Four Nations competition.

The Course has been organised by the Pentagon Group of Sports which is made up of representatives from the National Governing Bodies of five sports – Rugby League, Basketball, Table Tennis, Squash and Hockey in association with the University Central of Lancashire, where a lot of the course will be delivered from. 

The Pentagon Group Level 4 is the first to achieve full endorsement through the UK Coaching Centre of Excellence based from Leeds Metropolitan University.  The Interim Director of the Centre, Graeme Maw said, “This is an innovative programme that is at the forefront of coach development in the UK.  We’re pleased to be able to endorse the Level 4 and look forward to working with the Group to continue to support coaching in the UK”

The Pentagon Group is chaired by the RFL’s Head of Coach Development, Vinny Webb who said: “The development of coaches is critical to the provision of a quality player development programme and crucial to the delivery of future international success. If we want a bigger pool of international players to choose from in future years then we need more and better qualified coaches to produce them. The UKCC Level 4 programme is a key part of this development.”
