TalkHockeyRadio November 2009

The third season of the EuroHockey League has just started and TalkHockeyRadio was in Paris for Round 1.2, which featured English clubs Beeston and East Grinstead.  In a specially extended edition we visit Paris to talk to the teams and organisers, but we also have reports from the England Hockey League back home.

Last season Fareham had a stellar season, reaching the semi-finals of the England Hockey Cup and gaining promotion to the England Hockey League.  We were at their match against Stourport, where we spoke to coach Nigel Cook.

Last season’s champions in the Women’s Premiership have had a difficult start to the 2009-2010 season. We ask Bowdon Hightown manager Dieter Hill, “What’s going wrong?”

In Paris we talk to Euro Competitions Manager Steve Catton about the new ‘own goal’ rule and the future of the EuroHockey League, and EHF President Martin Gotheridge explains the restrictions on shirt advertising which got one club into hot water. For an umpire’s take on the ‘own goal’ rule we have the benefit of some wisdom from Andy Mair.

From the English club’s taking part in the EuroHockey League, we have an interview with Jon Copp who is helping East Grinstead on the coaching front, and from their captain Scott Ashdown and manager Matt Jones. It’s hard to get away from someone with the surname Jones in this edition, we have post-match interviews with Beeston coach Zak Jones and goal scorer Martin Jones.  And our old friend, Beeston goalie Tom Skinner, gets in on the action with a free plug for his new company, Zenith Teamwear.

It’s all in the November edition of TalkHockeyRadio.
