Menís Cup Quarter Final Draw

Cup holders Beeston have been drawn to play against Reading in the Quarter Finals of the Men’s Cup following this weekend’s Round Four Matches.

Beeston's captain Stephen Lawrence lifts the cup after winning the England Hockey Men's Cup Final at Highfields, Beeston, Nottingham, 15th May 2010Beeston, who comfortably overcame the challenge of Deeside Ramblers in Round Four, have been drawn to play against Reading in the Quarter Finals of the Men’s Cup. Reading had to come from behind to beat Fareham 3-1 thanks to an Andy Watts double and they will travel to Nottinghamshire to play against Beeston for the first time in the competition since the sides met in the 2009 final where Reading won 3-1. The day before the sides made it through to the last eight, Beeston defeated Reading 1-0 in the England Hockey League (EHL) Premier Division.

There is a case of déjà vu in two of the other Quarter Final matches, with Old Loughtonians drawing Hampstead & Westminster, and Cannock drawing University of Birmingham, two ties that took place in last season’s competition.
Old Loughtonians, who made it past a battling Milton Keynes side in Round Four lost to Hampstead & Westminster in last season’s competition as they went on to reach the Final. Cannock made it to this stage with a 2-1 win in Golden Goal extra time against Bowdon and they will now be looking for revenge in the Quarter Finals against a University of Birmingham side who beat them in Round Three last season on penalty strokes. The students made it to this stage with a comfortable
5-1 victory over Barton.
The remaining tie of the round will see giant killers Chelmsford travel to Doncaster. Chelmsford, who now play in the East Regional Premier A Division are the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition and they have already defeated two EHL teams on route to this stage. Their next challenge will be against Doncaster from the EHL Conference North Division who had to rely on three goals in the last ten minutes to defeat Oxton 4-1. This is the third time in four seasons that Doncaster have made it to the last eight of the Men’s Cup.
