England's Best In Europe This Weekend

Euro Hockey League
This weekend East Grinstead and Beeston will take to the field with some of the finest clubs and players in Europe at HTC Uhlenhorst in Mülheim, Germany.
Beeston take on Polish side KS Pomorzanin Torun and RC Polo de Barcelona of Spain on Friday and Sunday respectively.  Following a title winning season in England and some strong signings over the summer of Scottish international Gordon McIntyre and Tom Pinnegar from Cannock, Beeston will no doubt have their sites set high for the weekend matches.

East Grinstead made some significant summer signings to their squad with the addition of GB Captain Barry Middleton and GB players Iain Lewers and Mark Gleghorne.  The new line up will face Russian side Dinamo Elektrostal on Saturday, followed by WKS Grunwald Poznan on Sunday morning.

Ahead of the weekend matches EG's Manager, Matt Jones said, 'we are going into the weekend with a strong ambition to win the pool and to therefore be seeded for the KO16 round which takes place at Easter.  We want to make a cast iron challenge to be the first English team to lift the EHL title.'

Eurosport 2 will be providing extensive coverage of this weekend’s Euro Hockey League Round 1.1 event, while the Euro Hockey League website will be live streaming every match on www.ehlhockey.tv.

The Euro Hockey League Round 1 events take place over two weekends in October. Round 1.1 Mülheim begins on Friday 7th October and ends on Sunday 9th. Round 1.2 Brasschaat will take place from Friday 21st October to Sunday 23rd October and will feature Reading.

Each tournament has 12 of Europe’s finest club teams fighting it out in a bid to reach Easter’s KO16 tournament, which will take place in The Netherlands.

The tournament at Mülheim will feature the teams that have been drawn into Pools B, C, G and H. Each Pool consists of three teams, with the two highest finishers qualifying for the Knock-Out tournament at Easter. The third-ranked team within each Pool will be relegated from the competition.

Host club HTC Uhlenhorst – a club that has been crowned European champions no less than nine times – will compete in Pool B where they will face Spanish giants Atlétic Terrassa and AHTC Wien of Austria. Pool C sees English champions Beeston HC pitted against Spain’s RC de Polo de Barcelona and Poland’s KS Pomorzanin Toruń. Torun’s compatriots WKS Grunwald Poznan (POL) will do battle with Ashley Jackson’s East Grinstead (ENG) and Dinamo Elektrostal (RUS) in Pool G, while Dinamo Kazan (RUS) and Olimpia Kolos Sekvoia (UKR) will aim to overcome Teun de Nooijer’s HC Bloemendaal – the 2009 EHL champions – in Pool H.
