Jackson Brace Helps East Grinstead to Victory

TWO goals in the final nine minutes from Ashley Jackson helped East Grinstead snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Beeston and stay top of the Men’s EHL Premier Division table on Sunday.

They led 1-0 at half time thanks to a 27th minute goal from David De Prez, but Beeston hit back in style with goals from Patrick Schmidt and Adam Dixon on 54 and 57 minutes to shock the leaders.

England ace Jackson (pictured above) struck first in the 61st minute and, despite Andrew Piper being yellow-carded a minute later – they retained the upper hand and scored the winner on 69 minutes from a Jackson penalty corner.

Elsewhere, Loughborough Students won 4-1 over Cannock with Sam Ward scoring twice, while others came from Richard Smith and Owain Dolan Grey.

Arjan Drayton Chana scored Cannock’s consolation on 56 minutes, but they were already 3-0 down at that point.

Bowdon came out 4-3 winners after a thrilling clash with Hampstead and Westminster.

The visitors took the lead with Andrew Smith scoring on 20 minutes, only for Bowdon to score through Simon Egerton and Michael Hoare which gave the home side a 2-1 lead on 51 minutes.

Smith’s second goal levelled the scores on 55 minutes, but Bowdon re-took the lead two minutes later with Nigel Croke scoring.

Dan Fox made it 3-3 with a 67th minute goal, but hopes of taking a point from a draw were dashed with Croke popping up again on 69 minutes to secure the win.

And Reading won 2-0 at Southgate, Simon and Richard Mantell scoring a goal in each half to help secure the win.

Surbiton and Exeter University had to share the spoils from a 1-1 draw, Ben Tibble and Rob Mugridge scoring the goals.

In the East Conference, Wimbledon secured an emphatic 6-0 win over Indian Gymkhana, Ben Halls scoring a hat-trick in the win. Other goals came from James Osborn, Simon Lanyon and Jared Treadaway.

Canterbury beat Oxted 4-1 in their match. Nathaniel Joy, David Matthews and Michael Farrer scored first half goals which gave them a 3-0 lead at half time, while after the break Tom Butt made sure of the win, while Dafydd Charles bagged a consolation goal for Oxted.

Two goals from Gareth Andrew helped City of Peterborough to a 4-2 win over Bromley and Beckenham.

In the North Conference, a hat-trick from Ali Ghazanfar saw Deeside Ramblers win 3-1 over Barford Tigers.

And Sheffield Hallam secured an emphatic 7-1 home win over Belper. Phil Roper scored twice, while others came from David Smith, Tristan Gilbody, Dan Berry, Rhys Gowman and Matthew Gough.

Fareham ran out 4-2 winners in their West Conference clash at Lichfield, Craig Peel scoring three of their goals while Alex Boxall added the other.
