East Grinstead win European indoor silverware

East Grinstead earned a return to Europe's elite top tier next season after winning every one of their matches at the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy in Vienna. A 2-1 win over hosts NAVAX-AHTC sealed the title on Sunday after their Saturday defeat of Kolos-Sekvoya Vinnitsa of Ukraine had guaranteed promotion with one game to play. GB Olympian and Scotland international Niall Stott (pictured) was East Grinstead's hero, netting both goals.

A 6-2 win over HC Minsk on Saturday morning had previously ensured East Grinstead's progress into Pool C, the promotion pool, adding to two victories on Friday, including a memorable fight back against Scotland's Grove Menzieshill in which EG came from 5-2 down to win 6-5. Earlier on Friday, the recently re-crowned English indoor champions beat Portugal's Lousada 7-2.

On Saturday afternoon, East Grinstead's 4-3 win over Kolos-Sekvoya Vinnitsa of Ukraine secured their place in the top two with only hosts NAVAX-AHTC to play in Pool C on Sunday. And the unusually low scoring final encounter against the hosts provided the perfect finish to a successful indoor season for East Grinstead, who also won a fifth consecutive Maxifuel Super Sixes Championship title last month.
