England suffer at hands of the Dutch

A tired England Under-18 Girls team lost out 9-0 to the Netherlands in the third and final test match at Lilleshall on Easter Monday.

Their third match in as many days, the England team struggled to cope with the fitness and sharpness of their rivals.

They defended several penalty corners well and kept their rivals at bay for some periods, but once tiredness set it in the second half the Dutch took full advantage.

Three-nil down at half time with two of those coming from penalty corners, England leaked another five from open play and one from a corner routine.

Team Manager Jo Thomas said afterwards: “The girls have worked incredibly hard this weekend, we can’t deny their effort. But the Dutch are very strong and fit.

“We weren’t able to control the ball when we had it, and put ourselves under a lot of pressure. We defended penalty corners fairly well and the defence had some good spells, but so much pressure eventually told on our tired legs.”
