Great Britain off to winning start in U21s

Luke Taylor (centre) celebrates scoring

A hat-trick from Loughborough Students’ Luke Taylor handed Great Britain a winning start in the Sultan of Johor Cup against hosts Malaysia.

Taylor struck first in the 32nd minute before Robbie Gleeson added a second in the 44th. Although Malaysia fought back to level the scores at 2-2 with goals from Azwar Rahman in the 48th minute and a penalty corner converted by Shahril Saabah in the 50th minute, Jon Bleby’s side were not to be denied. Taylor added another in the 62nd minute and completed a memorable hat-trick with two mintues to go to full time.

Taylor scooped the man of the match award for his part in giving Great Britain the win and said afterwards:

“This win is a great start; it gives us a good place on the scoreboards and the confidence to keep going strong throughout this tournament. I hope we can build on this and carry on in good form for the rest of the tournament.”

Great Britain’s next game is against India at 18:35 local time.
