Team of the Week 2018/19 - Round 16

Team of the Week

Nominations have again come in from up and down the country for our #EHTeamOfTheWeek.

As always it was a tough challenge to whittle it down to just 11 players but we have just about managed to do it, with the team including a triple hat-trick, a goalkeeping masterclass and several youngsters shining in tough situations against much more experienced opponents.

Want to see your team-mates in the side next week? Then don’t forget to comment on our Facebook and Twitter posts over the weekend.

TOTW 2018/19 Round 16

Goalkeeper

Name: Miriam Pritchard
Club: Loughborough Students HC
Nomination: Miriam produced an outstanding performance this week, showing exceptional decision making and dominating the circle while also producing a brilliant save to keep out a stroke (which you can see below).

Defence

Name: Claire Guard
Club: Kingsbridge & Salcombe HC
Nomination: How many stars can one club have? This week the standout player for Kingsbridge & Salcombe was Claire, who celebrated her 40th birthday in style by scoring a hat-trick, assisting two goals and keeping a clean sheet.

Name: Harry Butler
Club: Exeter University HC
Nomination: Exeter continue to battle hard in the Men’s Hockey League Premier Division and pulled off an impressive 3-1 win over Brooklands at the weekend. This was thanks in large part to the efforts of Harry, who put in an outstanding performance showing grit and determination.

Name: Grace Noble
Club: Northampton Saints HC
Nomination: Despite being the youngest and smallest player on the pitch, Grace produced a brilliant performance against experienced opposition. She never missed a tackle and contributed numerous times when her team were on the attack too, a feat even more impressive considering she’d played for the U14s in the morning too.

Midfield

Name: Caitlin Polley
Club: Alderley Edge HC
Nomination: Aged just 16, Caitlin captain the 1st XI for the first time as they secured an impressive 1-0 away win. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough!

Name: Alice Firbank
Club: Ipswich Seven HC
Nomination: Alice signed off in fine style as she played her final game for the team before moving to London, being named Player of the Match after covering the whole pitch and excelling in both defence and attack.

Name: Jo Head
Club: Gosport Borough HC
Nomination: Another player featuring in an unusual position, Jo adapted to playing in midfield with aplomb this week. Described as the ‘rock of our team’ by her nominator, she was the key link between defence and attack throughout.

Attack

Name: Hannah Ward
Club: Fareham HC
Nomination: Lining up in a team with only eight players, no goalkeeper and being the youngest member may be a daunting prospect for some but not for Hannah. The forward shone throughout, scoring five goals as her team almost caused a huge upset but narrowly lost 7-6.

Name: Ellie Moore
Club: Exeter University HC
Nomination: It’s often hard to pick a standout performer when a side win 29-0 but Ellie certainly shone at the weekend, bagging herself a triple hat-trick in the process.

Name: Louis Whitling
Club: Eastbourne HC
Nomination: Another brilliant performance for a player who has had an outstanding season yet hasn’t appeared in Team of the Week… Well no longer! This time round Louis scored a stunning winner, drag flicking the ball into the top left corner to secure a late victory for his team.

Name: Lottie Gill
Club: Durham University HC
Nomination: She may still be at school but Lottie is thriving playing for Durham University’s 1st team in the Investec Women’s Hockey League North. She put in another great display at the weekend, scoring two goals in a victory over Leeds and was named Player of the Match.
