Team of the week: Round 20

Team Of The Week

This week is a special 2018/19 final edition of the England Hockey Team of the week. We've had a chat with our 2 coaches and a slight shuffle in positions with 3 at the back, 4 in the middle and 3 up front.

We have had an amazing season and some of the most incredible teams each week.

This week has some special editions, umpires, coaches, retirements and more.
Team of the week - 4th April
Name: Mark Heaps
Club: Prescot
Nomination: He’s there rain hail or shine at every training session and every game. As captain this is an enormous help. Has never taken a penny in 12 years of coaching them and this season has reached the semi final of the EH, Won Greater Manchester Div 1 and reached the finals of the Divisional Cup and the All Divisions Cup!!

Name: Jamie Cooper
Club: Burton Hockey
Nomination: For coaching all sides this season. Helping all teams to achieve wonderful things including Men’s 5s promotion, Ladies 4s promotion and Ladies 1s back to back promotion!!

Name: Stuart Mackie
Club: Lancaster Nomads
Nomination: For being the best umpire in the league and despite waiting for a knee replacement (which has kiboshed his dream of doing his level 2) is still umpiring and hobbles as fast as he can up and down the sidelines every week!

Name: Chris Duppa-Miller
Club: Warwick Hockey Club
Nomination: He has just completed his 60th season with the Club. Bet not many people can match that?

Team Of The Week umpire

Goal Keeper
Name: Charlotte Éyre
Club: Cannock
Nomination: She has conceded the fewest goals all season throughout the ladies teams! She’s a level 2 coach and hockey is life! She also kept a clean sheet today despite a penalty stroke and at least 20 short corners against her. She got player of the match from both umpires and opposition. Oh, and did I mention she’s been chosen for the England Adaptive team and was selected for England mixed lions last season and is hoping to do the same this year.

Name: John Redman
Club: Durham City Hockey club
Nomination: This guy has been playing hockey for 50 years! An outstanding achievement. This was his final season and after this weekend will be hanging his stick up. A true asset to the club and will be great missed at the back!
Team Of The Week CB
Name: Ben Barden
Club: Eastbourne
Nomination: An outstanding performance for his last game of the season. Played alongside the infamous Louis Whitling to set him up 3 goals and Ben was the janitor at the back saving the team on numerous occasions. For the final team. He is a solid pick.

Name: Gemma Hurst
Club: Leek HC
Nomination: Our captain of the ladies 1st X1, last game at the helm and as always a solid, hard working performance. Stopping one on the line and making some crucial tackles as always.

Name:Karen Louise Timby
Club: Spalding HC
Nomination: Ladies 1s captain. She has constantly encouraged and supported the team this year, going out of the way for all players in the team, giving guidance and helping them all keep smiling through many tough games. She has let the team from Midfield and has been a key part scoring goals and setting up many. Especially, supporting juniors in their first season in the 1s. An inspirational and motivational captain the club should be proud of!!

Name: Katie Warren
Club: OPM
Nomination: She established the team 3 years ago, brought people back to hockey and gave juniors an amazing start to their hockey life. The best captain in the world, so encouraging and empowering to all at the club. A total asset to hockey. To top it all off, her hard work got us promoted this season! She is also an awesome player! Katie we love you so much, you are wonderful! Congratulations on all you have done!

Name: Holly Bateman
Club: Amersham & Chalfont
Nomination: Today played her first ever 11 aside game which was her first ever County cap for Buckinghamshire. Held her own completely even though nearly all of the girls were 12/13y - she is only 11y & smallest on the pitch... She proved that hockey is for all shapes & sizes and if you’re good enough, you can definitely punch above your weight! Just missed out on player of the day too.

Name: Charlie Maclure
Club: Buckingham Men
Nomination: The team had their second ever match today as they try and get a men's section off the ground for next season. It was a friendly, but a fantastic display, D to D. A bit of a left field nomination but still very worthy.

Name: Graham Brown
Club: Canterbury Hockey Club
Nomination: After 50 consecutive seasons playing for Canterbury Graham has hung up his stick. Graham won the clubs top scorer a record 12 times. He has kept a record and scored 1550 goals in his career.
