Shocked by the latest statistics showing the rise in childhood obesity, one teacher took it upon herself to make a difference by hosting an extra-curricular sports fair at her school.

Ms K Gardiner – Head of PE at Trinity School in West Berkshire – invited more than 200 children to experience a range of activities including rugby, cheerleading and netball.

Several local clubs were also asked to come along and showcase their sports, with volleyball and rugby on the list alongside hockey.

Newbury and Thatcham HC’s Simon Hannam went along to inspire the youngsters to pick up a stick and get involved with our sport at either an after-school club or with their local team.

Simon gave the children a full hockey experience, giving many their first opportunity to play the sport and even win some #HockeyFest goodies by completing a challenge he set them.

Inspired by the day, the school have now set up a regular Workout of the Week session to encourage the children to keep active outside of PE lessons. You can keep up to date with their workouts here.
