Middleton, Jackson miss out on World awards

After being nominated in the World Player and World Young Player of the Year shortlists by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), England's Barry Middleton (pictured) and Ashley Jackson missed out in Friday's awards ceremony.

Barry Middleton, the England captain, celebrates scoring for England against Pakistan at the Hero Honda FIH World Cup in Delhi, India, 4 March 2010Presenting the awards at its Annual Congress and Forum in Switzerland, the FIH awarded the men's World Player of the Year award to Australia's Jamie Dwyer, who picked up the title for a record fourth time.

Germany's Tobias Hauke was given the World Young Player of the Year award - the same award that England set piece expert Jackson picked up in 2009.

In the women's awards, Argentina's Luciana Aymar, who showed her quality on English turf earlier this year at the Samsung FIH Champions Trophy, picked up the Women's Player of the Year award for the seventh time.  And China's Zhao Yudiao won the women's Young Player of the Year award.
