England Hockey requires data of injuries sustained across the sport so that trends can be identified and reported to both England Hockey’s Board and the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It is imperative that England Hockey collects this data in order to influence rule changes and improve the safety of the sport.
The reporting of injuries sustained on the field of play is required for all clubs/ organisations affiliated to England Hockey as part of England Hockey's Injury Reporting Policy.
There are currently two ways to report injuries caused by/during Hockey Activity

In 2022 England Hockey announced an exciting partnership with Podium Analytics – an NGO and charity who are committed to reducing injury in sport. The safety of hockey players is incredibly important, and this partnership will help to address the issues of sports-related injury, with a special focus on young people.
As part of this partnership, we have joined Podium’s Clubs Programme, called SportSmart, which provides us with a new injury and insight platform as well as brilliant content and tools for clubs to use.
Get involved:
- The SportSmart platform is free for all of our clubs, you will have your own bespoke organisation profile where you can add coaches, volunteers and players with access to the different tools as part of the programme.
For Clubs
If you would like to take advantage of the SportSmart programme your club will need to create an account with Podium, if you can complete this from the SportSmart team at Podium will be in touch to take you through the onboarding process. They will help you set up your club, onboard your players and staff, they can also help with any questions you might have.
For Players
If you would like to use the platform but your club is not currently up and running, you will need to speak to your club safeguarding officer. They can then pick up with Podium to set your club up on the platform.

In order to collect meaningful data, England Hockey requires clubs/associations to complete the England Hockey online ‘Injury Monitoring Form’ following injuries sustained that require one or more of the following:
- Treatment from a first aid specialist (e.g. Team doctor/ first responder)
- Hospital treatment
- Subsequent visit(s) to a GP
