Matt Grahame Walks 630 Miles To Help Fund Hockey Pitch

Matt Grahame, a goalkeeper and umpire for Tavistock Hockey Club, walked 630 miles of southwest coastal path in just 41 days! Matt walked roughly 15-20 miles a day, passing through landmarks such as the Victorian Cliff railway which looked down onto Lynmouth from Lynton. This was to honour the memory of his late wife Jan Potter.

Jan was an avid hockey player and played all her life. She not only picked up a stick but also the whistle. Jan was a club player through and through and in recent years was a member at Launceston Ladies hockey club. They are a registered women's team currently playing in Trelawney League Division 2. They are also involved in supporting numerous charities, included in this was a raffle to raise funds for Jan’s nominated charities.

When Jan passed in July 2022 Matt decided to take on this huge challenge and raise money towards a Hockey pitch in Launceston.

The coast path was a shared ambition for Matt and Jan, and they had planned to undertake the challenge when they retired. So, on 12 May 2023, Matt grabbed his walking boots and set out on this tremendous challenge. On 22 June 2023, Matt completed 630 miles in just 41 days.

Matt kept the world up to date on his progress by posting regular updates on the Jans legacy walk Facebook page, his walk took him along some of the most outstanding British coastlines and ‘Powered by Pasties’ says Matt, he has raised over £3,000 so far.

Walking 630 Miles isn’t easy and we congratulate you on your huge achievement whilst raising money for a fantastic community project, to encourage kids into sport.
