Goals galore in Glasgow

For England’s U16 teams on Monday it was mission complete after both the girls and the boys teams beat Scotland for the second time in as many days to record a clean sweep of victories in Glasgow.

England’s girls rounded off a difficult week with a 3-0 victory over Scotland with captain Lily Elliot of Sevenoaks worthy of particular mention for her contribution, which included a fourth minute individual opening goal. Second half goals from Cannock’s Chloe McIntosh and Pelicans' Fran Ruffell completed the scoring, adding to a 4-0 win on Sunday.

After the match, U16 girls Team Manager Jackie Sharp paid tribute to the squad saying, “It was difficult for everyone coming away this weekend but the girls played some good hockey and the newer players acquitted themselves well.”  Read the match report here.

Following the girls’ victory, England’s U16 boys turned in an excellent performance that included some clinical finishing to beat Scotland 8-1.  The result meant that the team scored 14 goals in just two games following a 6-1 win on Sunday.  Tom Alsop, of Devizes HC and Lowington school, netted a hat-trick while there were doubles for Harleston Magpies’ Elliot Smith and East Grinstead’s Oliver Ashdown.  Rugby & East Warwickshire’s James Simpson also found himself on the score sheet with a goal on the hour mark.

Speaking at the end of a good weekend for the England under 16 boys, Team Manager Dieter Hill said, “We’re very happy.  It was a very good first half and the boys played with the intensity and execution that the game plan demanded.  In the second half we went on to complete the job.”  Read the match report here.
