GYO Club Day Eastcote

The first two weekends in September saw hundreds of clubs across the country hosting their 'Harvester Grow Your Own' Club Days.

Harvester Grow Your Own Focus Club - Surrey Spartans - 10.09.11

Surrey Spartans Hockey Club held a very successful club day this weekend with loads of youngsters turning up to try hockey for the first time.  A review of the day is below, along with other great stories from club days from around the country.

Club Chairman, Lowell Lewis, is very excited about the future of the club, which has only been running for a year.  He added, "we want to thank the England Hockey for choosing us as the spotlight club for the GYO day. The club day has given us a massive boost that we could never have achieved by ourselves. I am really excited about how far we can take the club and with the potential links to local primary schools on the horizon perhaps our vision of having a complete club is closer than we originally thought. Its going to be a challenge but thanks to the weekend i think we are in a much better place to succeed."

England and GB International, Jonty Clarke, made a big impact on the day and spent several hours down at the pitch helping some of the youngsters with their skills and signing autographs.  He even got involved in some of the mini games and tried not to be too competitive when playing with 3-9 year olds who had never played hockey before!
