Cup holders Beeston to play Cannock in quarter finals

The draw for hockey’s Men’s Cup quarter finals has thrown up a Midlands derby as the tie of the round with cup holders Beeston at home to fellow England Hockey League (EHL) Premier Division front runners Cannock.

Both teams made long trips South in the last 16 returning victorious.  Beeston won 6-1 at Fareham and Cannock defeated South League side Brighton & Hove 3-1.  Southgate, who won 7-5 at Preston in the last 16, return to the North West to take on Bowdon.  Bowdon also scored seven but enjoyed a far shorter trip to neighbouring Timperley and also kept a clean sheet.

There will be at least one non-Premier Division side in the semi finals as Conference North leaders Brooklands MU take on Bromley & Beckenham from the Conference East.  Brooklands had a walkover over local rivals Deeside Ramblers and Bromley belied their bottom of the table position to beat fellow Conference East side City of Peterborough 5-2.  The leaders of Conference East, Canterbury, enjoyed a comfortable 6-2 at Oxford Hawks and now travel to Hampstead & Westminster who were the biggest winners of the round in defeating Sevenoaks 10-0.
