SIX goals from Alex Scott helped Slough top the Women’s Premier Division table at the end of the first day of the Maxifuel Super Sixes Indoor Championships on Saturday.

Scott’s goals helped her side become one of two unbeaten teams after the first two matches, although Bowdon Hightown are just behind them in second and only four goals adrift.

Slough beat Clifton 5-3 in their opening match of the day, Scott scoring just once while others came from Sara Daji, Nora Ilkei, Harriet Cunningham and Natalie Bell.

But in their second match of the day – against Trojans – Scott scored another five goals and Natalie Bell added two more as they hammered their rivals 7-1 to go top of the table.

Also unbeaten are Bowdon Hightown, who largely have Tina Cullen and Michelle Liptrot to thank for their two victories.

Liptrot scored four and Cullen three as they beat Clifton 7-4 in the day’s opening match, and Cullen added another two as part of a 3-2 win over Leicester in the afternoon.

Canterbury’s defence proved strong throughout the first day, having conceded just two goals.

They won 5-0 over Sutton Coldfield in their first match with Susie Rowe scoring two and others coming from Tash Brennan, Mel Clewlow and Susannah Townsend.

They took an early lead against Reading with Rowe on target in the second minute, and they held that lead until the 31st minute, but two goals in the final few minutes of the match saw Reading take the win.

That victory made up for Reading’s earlier disappointing 3-2 defeat to Leicester, for whom Hannah Smith, Vanessa Hawkins and Lauren Turner scored, with Hawkins ending the day with three goals.

In other action, Trojans beat Harleston Magpies 4-2 with Nyssa Cole scoring twice to make it three on the day, while Lizzie Gittens and Steph Farmer were also on the scoresheet.

Finally, Sutton Coldfield ran out 3-0 winners over Harleston Magpies thanks to goals from Charlene Mason, Jenny Parkinson and Celia Butler.

Among the matches being staged tomorrow are a mouth-watering top of the table clash between Slough and Bowdon Hightown.
