Reading beat Bowdon to boost Championship hopes

Reading beat Bowdon Hightown 2-0 in the Championship clash on Sunday, with goals by Elizabeth Hunt (6th minute) and Alex Danson (43rd minute) enough to see them to victory on Sunday.

The Berkshire club will play Leicester on Sunday 15 April in the Investec Women's Championships, a showcase match which features as part of the Investec Finals Weekend in Reading.  Tickets are on sale now from just £4.

On Saturday, two first half goals were enough to give Bowdon Hightown a 2-1 win over Clifton in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Championship, and book their place in Sunday's clash against table-topping Reading.

Sally Walton gave Bowdon the lead with a strike from a 14th minute penalty corner, and Faye Nash doubled that lead with a second goal just three minutes later.

Clifton hit back mid-way through the second half with Els Mansell scoring from open play on 58 minutes, but they couldn’t find a crucial equalising goal and Bowdon went through to take on Reading as they continue to chase their Championship dreams.

Leicester secured a confident 4-1 win over Canterbury in their Championship clash on Saturday to reach the final.

Crista Cullen (pictured above) scored two early goals for Leicester, both from penalty corners on 2 and 10 minutes. And Katie Long added a third on 12 minutes as Leicester went 3-0 ahead.

Nat Seymour pulled back a goal on 15 minutes from a penalty stroke for Canterbury, but that was to be as close as they would come to Leicester, who defended their lead well after the break and extended the scoreline late in the match with Kerry Williams scoring from open play with two minutes to go.

In the promotion tournament, Buckingham gave their hopes of playing in the Investec Women’s Premier Division next season a boost when they won 2-1 against Surbiton.

Jess Bloom scored after 15 minutes from a penalty corner, and they held that lead to the break. Katrina Nicholson added their second goal, this time from open play after 45 minutes.

Surbiton did their best to hit back and Amy Bryant halved the deficit with a 49th minute goal from a penalty corner, but it was not enough for victory.

And Hannah Bowe's 37th minute goal from a penalty corner was enough for Slough to beat Beeston in their Promotion Tournament clash.

As well as the Investec Women's Championships decider, the final four matches in the Promotion Tournament will take place at Investec Women's Finals Weekend, 14-15 April in Reading.

Tickets for the event are on sale now here, starting at just £4.

Horsham gave their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Investec Conference a boost when they hammered Springfields 5-0. First half goals came from Stef Dent on 24 minutes, and another on 34 minutes from Gill Adams.

And after the break they boosted their chances of avoiding the drop with three goals in nine minutes. Zeph Hardy scored on 60 minutes from a penalty corner, Jess Dean struck from a 66th minute penalty strike, and Heidi Meniss added the final goal on 69 minutes from open play.
