French brace helps U18 boys beat Spain

TWO goals from Sam French helped England Under-18 boys secure an emphatic 4-0 victory over Spain in the opening match of their Easter Four Nations Tournament in Holland on Good Friday.

England took the lead after 13 minutes through Luke Taylor who found the goal from a penalty corner routine, and Arjan Drayton Chana doubled that lead with a goal from open play on 23 minutes.

Just two minutes into the second half French popped up with his first goal from open play, and he bagged another five minutes from the end to give the Under-18 boys a great start to the campaign.

England Under-18 girls battled well against Germany in the opening match of their Easter Four Nations Tournament in Hanover, but went down 2-3 after a thrilling and close match.

England took an early lead with Hannah Pike scoring on 18 minutes from open play. The ball came across from the right hand side and she got on the end of it to deflect home on the left.

Germany hit back to lead with goals on 23 and 25 minutes which gave them the lead at half time, but England hit back on 45 minutes, Lucy Hyams this time deflecting in at the left after a cross from the right.

But Germany made sure of the win with a deciding goal on 53 minutes.

England Under-16 Boys lost out 2-4 to Germany in the Netherlands in the first match of their Easter Four Nations Tournament in the Netherlands on Good Friday.

After Germany had opened the scoring through Paul-Philip Kaufmann on seven minutes, Josh Sykes hit straight back for England with a goal from a penalty corner on nine minutes, his drag flick going low and head straight down the goalkeeper’s throat.

However, just eight minutes later Germany were back in front with Niklas Weiher scoring, and shortly after the second half started Johannes Trose made it 3-1 to the Germany’s from open play.

Trose added a fourth goal on 44 minutes, and although England pulled back a goal on 46 minutes when William Seward hit a reverse stick shot on the left, it was not enough for victory.

England Under-16 Girls had no such luck in their first Easter Four Nations Tournament match, with hosts Germany winning 5-0.

Germany took the lead after 18 minutes with Tessa Schubert scoring from open play, and that proved to be the only goal of a close first half.

But after the break they stepped up a gear and Malin Evert doubled the lead with a 41st minute goal. Sarah Gopfert scored on 50 and 65 minutes to extend their lead, and finally Schubert added her second three minutes from the end to cap the win.

And in their third match of the Test Series, England Under-21 women narrowly lost out 3-2 to America at Lilleshall on Good Friday.

Shona McCallin added to the two goals she scored in the second match with another in the very first minute of the match, and Jo Leigh scored their second with two minutes left, but in between America had scored three goals to secure the win.
