In2Hockey Finals Weekend

The National In2Hockey U13 Schools & U12 Club Finals took place on Friday 11th & Saturday 12th May and ended in glory for Queen’s College, Taunton, Cranleigh Prep School, Team Bath Buccaneers and Surbiton.

Friday was the day of the Schools competition which saw 20 teams competing in the 7 a-side matches.  In the Boys competition, Kingston Grammar School topped Pool A finished ahead of Bilton Grange School on goal difference.  Pool B was also a close affair with Queens College, Taunton finishing ahead of Simon Langton Grammar School by one point, Simon Langton were unlucky not to have made the final having beaten Queen’s College on the pool match but they suffered from two previous draws. 

In the final Queen’s College started well and went into half time with a goal up scored by Tristan Coore.   In the second half Queen’s College doubled their lead through Captain Patrick Free.  Kingston fought back during the second half and pulled one back with a goal from Ronan Harvey Kelly and two minutes later an equalizer came from Ben Park.  With the scores level at full time the match was decided through a penalty stroke competition, the first three strokes from each team were all scored which led onto sudden death strokes, a miss from Kingston meant that Queens’ College were crowned Champions.

In the Girls competition Millfield School topped Pool C ahead of Hymers College and they met Cranleigh Prep School who topped of Pool D ahead of Stockport Grammar School.  In the final, it was Millfield who opened the scoring after 5 minutes through Georgina McTear, Cranleigh equalized 3 minutes later through Isabelle Petter.  After half time it was Cranleigh to took control of the game with two penalty corner goals from Bethany Porter.   Cranleigh were crowned Champions with the 3-1 victory.

Saturday saw the arrival of the U12 clubs, with teams as far travelled as Exeter and Cheshire.  The Boys Pool A saw a tight pool with Avalon finishing ahead of Oxford Hawks, Avalon faced a strong squad from Team Bath Buccaneers who finished top of Pool B winning all their matches with Harleston Mapgpies finishing second in the pool.  The final saw a close game and the result decided by a single goal scored by Sam Young which sealed the victory for Team Bath Buccaneers.

In the girls side of the competition Surbiton topped their pool with 100% winning record with Kirkby Lonsdale second in the pool.  Pool D saw Beeston top the pool but only on goal difference with two other teams, Bournemouth and Alderley Edge all equal on points.  In the final Surbiton opening the scoring after 3 minutes through Fi Fi Robinson, Beeston we unable to close the gap on Surbiton and it was Surbiton who doubled their lead 2 minutes from time with a goal from Abbie Strachan.

The players were privileged to have the medals presented by members of the GB squads.  Ali Wilson presented the Schools with their awards on the Friday with Laura Unsworth attending on the Saturday.
