Revenge on the cards in Men's Cup quarter final draw

Hampstead & Westminster clash with Beeston in action from the Men's Hockey League

A familiar foe will be looking to halt Beeston’s charge for a fifth Men’s Cup title in six years when hockey’s Men’s Cup resumes for the quarter finals in February.

Londoners Hampstead & Westminster will be out to avenge last season’s 2-1 Cup final defeat at the hands of the Nottinghamshire side, who had England international goalkeeper George Pinner to thank as they staged a fightback to lift the trophy in May. Hampstead & Westminster will be hoping to break their cup curse against Beeston having lost to them in each of the previous three seasons, twice in the final. In their league head to head this season Beeston came out comfortable 5-1 winners.

Four time winners of the Cup Cannock face a home tie against Doncaster. The sides last met in the competition just two years ago when Doncaster pulled off a shock 3-0 victory to make their way into the final before losing out to Beeston. But Cannock are flying high in third in the Men’s Premier Division while Doncaster’s cup run has yet to spark a resurgence in league form as they sit bottom of Men’s Conference North.

Also through to the last eight, Oxted will make the short trip into South London to take on Bromley & Beckenham. Both Bromley & Beckenham and Oxted are enjoying a good season in the Men’s Conference East, sitting third and fourth respectively. The sides met in the league this weekend with Oxted coming out 3-2 winners.

The fourth and final tie of the quarter finals will see Men’s Premier Division side Surbiton travel to either Sheffield University Bankers or Oxton. The round three tie, which features the only two teams from outside of the Men’s Hockey League left in the competition, was postponed at the weekend and has been rescheduled for Sunday 20 January.
