England U16 Girls get off to a winning start

A GOAL in each half gave England Under-16 Girls a winning start to their Easter Four Nations Tournament at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire on Good Friday.

The 2-0 victory over Scotland came thanks to goals from Beeston HC’s Erica Sanders, of Repton School in Derby, and Holly Hunt, a Bowdon HC player from Stockport Grammar School, but the whole team played well and deserved the victory.

Sanders dived in at full stretch on the right hand side after 24 minutes to score England’s opening goal, and Hunt doubled the lead after 62 minutes with a reverse stick shot into the top of the goal.

“For their first international game they played some really nice hockey,” said Head Coach Marc Bourhill. “They created a lot of opportunities and had a lot of circle entry. We now just need to improve the outcomes in the D. But it was a great start and it will come.”

England will now prepare for their second match of the tournament against the Netherlands on Saturday morning at 10am.
