East Grinstead hosted the EuroHockey Indoor Club Championships this weekend with German side Harvestehuder taking the trophy in stunning style winning 10-4 in the final against Russian side Dinamo Yekaterinburg.

The Germans came into the clash as hot favourites, having comfortably won their pool and with the likes of the FIH World Player of the Year, Tobias Hauke, and the tournament’s top scorer on 15, Johan Bjorkman, in their side. And they lived up to the favourites tag as they outplayed their opponents with a great display of attacking hockey.

Bjorkman was first to find the target, opening the scoring after seven minutes of the final with an easy finish into an empty net on the break.

Tobias Lietz doubled Harvestehuder’s advantage midway through the first half as the German side took control of the clash.

Earlier in the day East Grinstead topped Pool C in the relegation battle to secure more top flight hockey next year in Europe. They of course have already qualified for the 2015 competition following their sixth straight win at the Maxi5s Championships earlier this month.

Following the game, East Grinstead's Mark Pearn said he has "mixed emotions" about their fifth place finish: "We came here with the sole aim of winning a medal and to miss out on a semi-final place by such a close margin and having not played our best in the final pool match was really hard to take.

"But we had to put that behind us quickly to make sure we retained our status in the Champions Cup division and to achieve that is pleasing."
