Former top player Tim Benford has been promoted by the FIH to the rank of International Indoor Umpire.

Tim played Indoor for Loughborough students for 10 years, winning 4 National Indoor titles and playing in 4 European club competitions between 2003 and 2008. An Indoor umpire since 2008, Tim has this year umpired at the Euro Nations in Vienna before taking charge of the Maxinutrition Hockey 5s Final at Wembley Arena.

Tim said of his achievement: “I am hugely honoured and pleased to have been promoted to an FIH International Indoor Umpire, I have always loved the indoor game and the experience of the semi-final and final of the Maxinutrition Hockey 5s at Wembley filled me with the same buzz and adrenaline rush as I experienced actually playing. I’d encourage any hockey enthusiast to get into indoor hockey; a fast, tactical and technical game”.
