U14 Championships take place this weekend

Surbiton girls U14 winners 2013

The finals of the U14 Clubs Championships take place this weekend at Wakefield Hockey Club

The weekend starts with the Boy’s competition on Saturday; with Surbiton the only team returning to the Finals from last season’s inaugural U14 National Finals where they lifted the trophy. They will come up against Saffron Walden and Leicester in Pool B, both of which have been unbeaten on route to this stage, with Alderley Edge the fourth team. In Pool A are Cambridge City, who had their U16 team participate in the National Finals back in March, and they take on Timperley, who have a 100% record on route to this stage, with Guildford & Rugby & East Warwickshire who make the finals for the first time at this age group.

Like their Boys team, Surbiton Girls will be looking to retain the trophy they won last season and continue the remarkable season their ladies section are having, with the Investec Women’s Premier Division, Investec Women’s Cup and Girls U16 Championships titles already won this season. They once again come up against Kirkby Lonsdale in Pool B as they did last season, with Harleston Magpies and Worcester making their first appearance in a national final at this age group. All teams in Pool A are appearing at this stage for the first time and have made it here without losing a game on route, with Beeston, Bournemouth, City of York and Old Loughtonians going head to head, the latter of which are hoping to add the U14 Championships to the U18 Girls Cup they won in March.
